Surgery Information / Job Description

Full time, experienced, General Practice Veterinary Surgeon, West Lancs, UK

  1. Are you wanting to settle in to a practice were you can build relationships with both your clients and your team?
  2. Are you able to undertake some sole-charge work and to carry out routine and emergency surgeries, with the backing of an experienced RVN team?
  3. Are you looking for a role that allows you to enjoy your life both inside and outside of work?

If you’ve answered yes to these questions, we may have the job for you!

Who we are:

We are a growing practice that opened in the summer of 2016. Being a brand new practice, we have built the practice up from a no client base to currently over 2500 active clients, and offer modern facilities with all the standard equipment you would expect from a general practice (including dental x-ray).

We are a small team of one vet, one Practice Manager, four RVN’s, five SVN’s and two admin staff, and we are proud of our low staff turnover. Our large nurse: vet ratio means we utilise our nurses to their full potential; they run a range of chargeable clinics and perform a variety of schedule 2 procedures.

We know we aren’t perfect, but is any team? We are working to create a good work: life balance for our staff (we want you to leave on time, for your own mental health and our bank balance!)  We constantly strive to create a better environment in practice, and encourage everyone to be honest when we don’t get it right.  We don’t want anyone taking problems home with them and are open for ideas on how we can improve both in a non-clinical and clinical setting.

We believe we have grown and will continue to grow by building close relationships with our clients and their pets. We like to work to a high standard but will always work with our clients to provide the care that is right for them.

You will want to develop trusting relationships with our clients to help guide them in understanding the right decisions to make when treating and caring for their pet. We want someone to maintain the bonds that we have already developed with our clients, whether that’s discussing their dog’s vaccination or their child’s performance at school! We believe that bond is crucial.

The Role:

  • Some sole charge (although our JVP Vet is only a phone call away if needed!)
  • OOH local independent practice (24h hospital)
  • Set shift pattern with two possible options:
    • 3 weekdays with every other weekend
    • 4 weekdays with 1 in 4 weekends
    • Weekday vet hours are 8.30-19.30
    • Weekend hours are Saturday 8.45-17.45, Sunday 9.45-15.45
    • No OOH

Person Specification

As we are a small team, we are looking for someone who wants to work at building relationships within our team (we understand not everyone wants to be best mates with their colleagues, but being comfortable in your work environment and with the people you will be seeing on a daily basis is important to us).

You will be able to perform dentals, routine soft tissue operations, basic emergency surgeries and medical work-ups. You will have a large nursing team available so we want you to respect their valuable knowledge and make the most of their skills. You will be a team player who will help to motivate the team to learn, develop and therefore grow as a practice.

You will have a positive attitude to work and a methodical approach to the running of your day - you will be able to manage your time and priorities to ensure you get the work done. We don’t want someone who will work themselves into the ground, because if you crack, no one is a winner. Instead we want someone who loves being a vet and understands with that job role comes a lot of work, but also realises that there is more to life than a job.
